French secrets & Dreams from afar

The Madrid family’s olfactory workshop, La Closerie des Parfums takes its name from those Parisian gardens that combine refinement of senses with the play of the imagination. The journey began in France, but the horizon is open in every direction.

Valérie Madrid is passionate about fragrance, having spent her childhood surrounded by bottles and stills. As a young girl in the family fragrance studio, she could already envision herself composing her own fragrances. At the age of twenty, she joined Antoine and Hervé (her uncle and father, respectively) to train alongside them. She patiently learned the art of perfumery, which she confirmed with further training at the prestigious Cinquième Sens school in Paris. Drawing on this experience, she began living her childhood dream and started designing her own range of fragrances.

For inspiration, she would wander through those Parisian gardens once known as closeries: “They are magical places” Valérie confides. It was decided: her fragrance studio would be called La Closerie des Parfums. The name was a tribute that let Valérie express not only the French art of living, but also her desire to get away from it all. “I’m originally from Bordeaux, the famous harbour city of wines and spices, which is why I also love to dream of new horizons. La Closerie is my playground” she explains, “where I can bring French haute perfumery together with my taste for the exotic.

Raw materials enhanced by spices
from around the world

In keeping with her idea of combining inspirations from near and far, Valérie perfected a simple principle for creation: pairing a precious base with spices from around the world.

La Closerie des Parfums applies its expertise to the continuous exploration of noble ingredients, elevated by spices. This exceptional formula offers unique interpretations that, when combined with individual sensitivity, give rise to truly singular fragrances.

It all begins with the selection of a core ingredient that serves as the foundation of each fragrance—rose, oud, patchouli, iris, or cocoa. They are like canvasses, forming the olfactory templates upon which the spices will soon be sprinkled. But the encounters are never happenstance. Quite the opposite. One material might prefer a peppercorn, while the other takes more readily to a bark. One spice might bring out the potency of a base, while another could reveal a subtler facet.

A fragrance is born only when it reaches that delicate balance where each ingredient enhances the other. The ultimate goal: to make every bottle an invitation to a unique olfactory journey.

“The very essence of our perfumes intrigues and sparks curiosity. Our uniqueness lies in this creative principle: a precious base enhanced by spices from around the world. It is the promise of an olfactory journey with a unique trail.”
